I still maintain this is a farewell song. I think it alludes to the fact that Kurt needs to be solo right now, to truly find himself and learn to love himself before he can be with Blaine. That means returning to McKinley and standing out, instead of blending in, no matter how safe. Because, let’s face it, Dalton isn’t the real world. But Klaine is endgame, so we know Blaine will be there every step of the way until Kurt’s ready.
